WHOO HOOOO STATE FAIR BABY!

Today is our band's annual trip to the State Fair. If you are not from MN, you have no idea what the State Fair means to this state. It's all anyone talks about for the week before it happens, the 12 days it goes on, and afterwords too. It's the biggest hugest deal in the entire world. They call it "The Great Minnesota Get Together." Just insane. I only wish i had tickets to go see James Taylor tonight.

So i'm sure i'll spend the whole day eating things on sticks. This is the tradition. They have pizza on a stick. Pie on a stick. Deep fried candy bars on a stick (really yummy.) Cheese on a stick, but i'll get the real cheese curds instead. Someone said this year they have grilled cheese sandwiches dipped in chocolate on a stick. That sounds gross.

We are going to leave around 9:45 from the extended campus; Pastor Craig is driving us. I should get a head-count bc i don't even know how many students are going. Wouldn't want to leave anyone behind.

And the big plus is that the weather is perfect!

In addition to my Donations for Dodge Charger plea, i'm also accepting donations for getting my wisdom teeth yanked. How much longer can i endure the endless PAIN of biting my cheeks, my lips, my tongue. My mouth is one big bruise.

Seriously. I think i have to go the oral surgeon (that's what they told me last time when i was going to get this done in '02 omg was it YEARS AGO???) and i don't currently have health insurance, so i heard that dental ins. does not cover surgery (which i do have dental, don't ask why). OMG.

Ow.

IT'S COOLING OFF!

It was actually so cold last night i had to shut the windows. Yay! Yesterday and today had the "fall feel" to them and i actually caught a whisper of the Christmas Spirit. I haven't plugged in any Christmas music YET but i had the first reminder of the change of seasons. Now that i said that, it'll probably turn back to being 90 and 100 degrees out.

I have officially sent in my registration and fee for a real live flesh and blood New Testament Greek (I) class. After 3 years of trying to discipline myself to learning it solo, I found a way to make my schedule work so i can actually be taught by someone other than a cd-rom. I start classes Thursday nights mid-september in Mounds View (yes a long drive) thru John Piper's Church, Bethlehem Baptist. I've heard good things about their Institute from several people and am looking forward to it. It's also got me thinking if at some point in the next few years i won't go get my Masters degree or a certificate in Biblical studies somewhere. I already have what i consider a working grasp of NT Greek - able to read it and understand about 1/16 of the vocab - it's the grammer that is killing me. So this will help all that.

And, last summer I picked up this novel-THE FACE OF GOD for something to read on the way to Nationals (with my youth group) and never got past the first few pages. (Reading on a jittery bus + the fine print made it difficult.) Yesterday afternoon I picked it up again and now i'm 1/4 of the way thru it. Such a page turner -- written before 9/11 it's an eerie and suspenseful tale of religious fundamentalism from both Islamic and Christian roots - an "end times" scenario from several perspectives. I highly recommend it! I'm also still reading thru the Time Quartet for some lighter reading.

Two days off in a row ==== great feeling!

Not much going on here. Got back safely from my Wisconsin Trip -- interesting tid bit on that. On the way home, i managed to somehow always catch up with this huge RV - all the way from Green Bay. I'd stop to get gas, or pass him, and then stop for gas or whatever, and then around the bend, THERE THEY ARE AGAIN! Florida licence plates. They ended up being in front of me on my turn to I-169 south and turning on my exact exit for HOME! Weiiiiird! Out of all the places we both could have been going. At least they didn't turn into my parking lot. I couldn't figure that one out. I had a dream last night that i went back to work and there was a huge section in the front of the store for children's clothing and baby clothes for back to school. LOL!!!  Posted by Picasa

Yet another Fire Alarm the same night as the first one. This time i was just going to bed (watching Gilmore Girls, strange resemblance to the first time lol) but i didn't leave the building at all. I figured it must have been the heat tripping off some sensor or something. I did see a lot of people leave the building and the fire trucks came but no one was rushing around outside so i thought i'd just go back to bed. I was amazed how many people were dumb and got in the elevator (we can watch the security cameras on our t.v.'s.) I guess you have to take the elevator if you're in a wheel chair or walk with a walker. But anyways.

I have been having some fun reading Song Facts on this site. It's not a huge list of songs but there are some interesting stories - especially some Beatles stuff i didn't know.

Apparently I should go purchase A BATH ROBE!

It's my day off. I was up around 6:30 bc that is considered SLEEPING IN for me since i normally am up at 2 or 3 a.m. for work. I popped in last night's Gilmore Girls tape since i fell asleep and was watching it. I then decided i was hungry so i got out last night's MINT CHOCOLATE CHIP ice cream that i made myself with my very own ice cream maker. And as an aside, if anyone wants to know why i'd eat ice cream for breakfast, the answer is BECAUSE I CAN !!!!

Just as i decided to get up and start my day, alarms started going off in the hallway.

Loud
annoying alarms that i have heard only once before and it lasted only a minute. The emergency doors close in the hallways and there is just loud noise.

Okay so i figure the building is either on fire or something bad.

I start to get dressed as my mind is racing. It's 7:30 in the morning. What do i do? What do I wear? If the building is really on fire, what do i try to grab before i make a run for it? I try to peer out my peep hole but it's all cloudy because it has never worked since i moved in here (it looks like unfocused binoculors.) I look out my window to the front lawn and sure enough there are old men in their shorts out there with their ball caps on. Keeping in mind i live in a building with MOSTLY RETIRED PEOPLE (omg.)

So my mind is going a mile a minute. My hair is bigger than your refridgerator (go look at your fridge; my hair was bigger than that) and i take a mental checklist of everything i could need in a hurry. I had left my purse with wallet and i.d. etc. in the car. I am still getting dressed. I try to cram my hair into a pony tail and throw a visor on my head. I pick out my coolest AE shirt and jeans and nike shoes. I figure if i'm going up in flames this is the one shirt i'd want to wear. I grab my store master keys from the bathroom, figuring i am still going to need a job if my place burns down so i'll have to have those keys. I look out my window again. A few more old people have joined the mix at the front door. I see no smoke and smell no smoke.

I think of the thing i love basically more than anything in this world: my Dell Inspiron laptop and try to untangle it's power cord from the 2,086 other cords under my couch and throw it into my laptop case, reasoning that if my place goes up in smoke i'd want to blog about it and i can go do that somewhere if i buy a wireless card and sit at Caribou. Oh lord. I look around my apartment and try to think if there's anything else i really want to salvage. I'm sorry to say that i looked at my guitar and then JUST LEFT IT THERE!!!! Maybe if my apt. building goes up in smoke, i figure, i can get a new one bc i have insurance? I threw a compact bible into the laptop case, and my book of the month "A Wrinkle In Time" in there as well, incase i got stranded i'd have something to read. I considered taking my knitting bag but it's almost empty - time to buy more yarn.

Then, like a true coward (or was it an abudance of faith) i grab my car keys and high tail it to the garage, GET IN MY CAR AND LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOSER! I don't even go to find out what is going on. [And, after spending over 600$ for car repairs last week, i figure my car deserved a chance to shine, right?]As i am driving off, on the side of the building there are three chicks. One is a super old lady whom i felt so bad for because her hair was all stringy and she's out there in her tiny white bathrobe with no make up looking so frail. The other chick is in her brown bathrobe with huge glasses on and huge hair too. No shoes or nothing. The other lady seemed to have taken about 1 minute to find something to wear. They are all just standing there. I barely look at them (how embarrassing) and am going over the speed bumps.

In comes 2 fire trucks so i wait for them to pull in and as i see no smoke anywhere, I JUST LEAVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Get on the highway, crank up the James Taylor and DRIVE!

OMG!

WHAT THE HECK IS WRONG WITH ME?????????????????

So i drove around for an hour listening to Laura Ingram on the radio and other things, and then came home to see if there was really smoke and i was for sure without a place to live, or if it was some stupid false alarm.

I'm back on my couch in my messy apartment finally drinking coffee. Whatever was the cause of the alarm is over now, and the embarrassment is over. And i don't care how vain anyone says I am, i would NEVER go sit outside in my bathrobe or pajamas with no shoes on on a public street for an hour with the old ladies. omg. What does this say about me? And what would you have taken with you in a hurry?

OMG.
